7 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Travel Alone

You’ve read of it, dreamed of it, and constantly envision yourself doing it. Traveling solo has become one of your bigger goals and you simply can’t take it off your mind. But before you get too excited and jump into the bandwagon of solo travel, it’s great to be aware of what lies ahead in this kind of journey. Here are the top 7 reasons why you shouldn’t travel alone:

1. You will get lonely

Having no constant companion in touring the city, exploring the caves, heading to the beach, or even enjoying the simple pleasure of eating out, loneliness is inevitable when you’re traveling on your own. It can go from bad to worst, making you book the very first flight back home the following day.

2. You will feel scared

To be in a place where you don’t know a single soul is enough to give you the jitter. Couple that with stories of solo traveling gone bad, you will find yourself in a confused state constantly asking yourself why you are doing it on the first place.

3. You will find yourself always on guard

The world is so big and so is the chance of being scammed. In a situation where you can’t rely on anyone but yourself, you find it necessary to keep yourself always on guard.

4. You will get lost

You will get lost in more than one occasion. You will end up in places that you didn’t intend to visit and meet people who will show you that sometimes, getting lost is one of the best things that can happen to you.

5. You will push yourself outside your comfort zone

Traveling alone will constantly expose you to situations that will challenge your beliefs on yourself and of the world. At the end of your journey, you will hardly recognize the kind of person you are prior to the trip.

6. You will do things that will surprise yourself

You will meet and befriend strangers despite your introversion. You will learn to trust people despite your trust issues and you will learn to forgive yourself for your mistakes over and over again.

7. You will find yourself growing

By traveling alone, you will find yourself growing each and everyday. You will learn to appreciate solitude and realize that the best relationship you can ever have is the relationship you have with yourself. You learn to value the ‘now’ because you know that tomorrow will bring a different set of challenges and surprises.

It’s scary and it may put you into several sleepless nights. But one day, if you look back, you will realize that the best lessons you’ve learned and the most memorable experiences you’ve had are those moments when you got the courage to venture into the unknown both to discover yourself and the world beyond you.

Have you gone traveling on your own? What are the realizations and lessons you’ve learned from that experience?
